Starship Test Flight Ends in Fiery Debris
SpaceX's Starship launcher spun out of control minutes after liftoff on Thursday, resulting in fiery debris over the Bahamas. The Super Heavy booster separated from the Starship upper stage roughly two-and-a-half minutes into the flight and guided itself back to the Texas coastline. SpaceX is now 3-for-3 with attempts to catch a Super Heavy booster back at the launch site, and 0-for-2 on test flights of the newest version of Starship, called Block 2 or Version 2. SpaceX started the year aiming for as many as 25 Starship test flights in 2025 but will end the first quarter of the year with just two.

Neuralink's Telepathy Ambitions
Elon Musk's Neuralink has filed trademark applications for names like Telepathy and Telekinesis, indicating potential future products related to brain-computer interfaces. Neuralink is developing technology to decode brain activity and control devices, with its initial product, Telepathy, designed to assist paralyzed individuals. The trademark applications suggest ambitions beyond device control, possibly enabling telepathic communication between humans with Neuralink implants. This aligns with Musk's vision of enabling telepathy through brain-computer interfaces.
Tesla's Stock Decline and Sales Drop
Tesla, under Elon Musk, faces a record losing streak, with its stock down 30.2% year-to-date. This decline is attributed to falling sales, reportedly due to Musk's association with Donald Trump and right-wing politics. Tesla's sales have dropped significantly, with consumers citing negative feelings towards Musk. Trump's policies, like tariffs, have also contributed to market instability. Consequently, Tesla has lost its $700 billion post-election gains, known as the "Trump bump."

SpaceX Starship Test Flight Failure
SpaceX's Starship Flight 8 test launch resulted in an explosion after a successful booster capture, causing debris to rain down over parts of the Caribbean and Florida. The upper stage disintegrated, losing several engines and communication nine and a half minutes after launch. The FAA issued ground stops for flights departing for Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, and Palm Beach airports for over an hour. This marks the second consecutive test flight where the Starship rocket malfunctioned, disrupting commercial flights and prompting an FAA investigation. The FAA activated a Debris Response Area and slowed aircraft outside the debris falling area. During flight 7 in January, Starship’s upper stage suffered an engine glitch that forced an early shutdown, causing it to break apart over Turks and Caicos in the Caribbean.
