Core viewpoint: Google I/O 2025 highlights Google’s commitment to AI integration across its products, with significant updates to Gemini and its applications in various fields.
Gemini AI Advancements
Google I/O 2025 heavily emphasized AI, with Gemini taking center stage. Gemini 2.5 Pro was released ahead of schedule, featuring DeepThink support for high-level research. Gemini 2.5 Flash has also been improved in reasoning, multi-modality, coding, and response efficiency. Gemini models now support audio-visual input and native audio output, envisioning it as a “universal AI assistant.” Developers can adjust the tone, accent, and speaking style of conversations via the Live API. AI is integrated into productivity apps like Gmail, with Personalized Smart Replies that adapt to the user’s writing style to generate tailored email responses. A new subscription tier for Gemini power users is also available.
AI in Google Services
AI Mode, a new chatbot powered by Gemini 2.5, is coming to Search for all US users and can handle complex queries, generate custom charts and graphics, and answer follow-up questions. Google plans to integrate some of these features into the core Search experience. AI Mode is powering new shopping features that let users virtually try on clothes. AI Overviews are now seen by more than 1.5 billion people each month. Google Assistant is being replaced by Gemini, featuring Gemini Live, which combines camera input, voice commands, and web searching. Gemini Live screen sharing and camera is now available to everyone.
Project Starline Rebranded
Project Starline, a 3D videoconferencing project, is now named Google Beam and is being sold to enterprise customers. Google Meet is getting a real-time translation option, matching the speaker’s tone and cadence, starting with Spanish and English.
Android XR and AI Integration
Android XR is being powered by AI features. Google’s AI-powered Android XR family of products includes new smart glasses.
AI-Driven Innovations
Veo, Google’s AI video generator, has a deep understanding of physics. Gemini Robotics can perform complex tasks by learning from simulations and real-world trials.
